NOAA Fisheries West Coast Logbook

Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission

The NOAA Fisheries West Coast Logbook is an electronic logbook app. Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission manages the electronic logbook application as well as the submitted logbook data. This app can be used by several US West Coast fishing fleets:

Non-trawl Groundfish:

NOAA Fisheries requires electronic logbooks from vessels targeting groundfish in federal waters using non-trawl gear. For more details about the regulation and who it applies to, please visit the NOAA Fisheries website to see the Final Rule or review the Compliance Guide. PSMFC manages the electronic logbook application as well as the submitted logbook data.

HMS:

An electronic logbook for HMS fisheries has been released and approved for use by NOAA as of June 2025. This electronic logbook is optional and can be used as an alternative to the paper logbook. Because this is a new release, please continue to carry a paper logbook in case you encounter any problems using the application.  For more details on logbook requirements, please visit the NOAA webpage for HMS Logbooks

Trawl Groundfish (In Development):

Trawlers for groundfish currently are required to use paper logbooks. NOAA Fisheries and Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission are in the process of developing an optional electronic logbook. If you would like to participate in testing the trawl electronic logbook, please email us at fedelog@psmfc.org.
